2 Half-Day Workshop

Seminar: Achieving Autism Success with Visual Strategies - Overcome Daily Challenges with Simple Tools

Sometimes the “little things” can cause the biggest problems for students with Autism, Asperger’s and similar learning needs. Many difficulties involve common life situations related to issues like dealing with change, participating in transitions or managing social opportunities.

Identifying each student’s “Individual Profile” is an important first step to helping that student achieve success. Understanding their communication strengths and weaknesses helps us become more effective communication partners.

The struggle with communication for these students is far more complicated than just evaluating their ability to talk. Understanding other people, trying to figure out what is happening in the environment and how to get their wants and needs met are some of the areas of difficulty that create frustration for these students. The result is behavior that is often seen as disruptive or inappropriate.

Current research reveals most of these students display strength in understanding visual information compared to their auditory abilities. Using visual supports capitalizes on that strength.

Using visual strategies is more than just having a schedule. There are many tools that help students successfully manage situations that are difficult for them. Even those who use some visual supports only tap a very small amount of the potential. Visual tools are simple to use, yet the impact on student success is profound.

This program will provide examples of how simple solutions solve sometimes major communication and behavior challenges. Visual strategies are used effectively with students of all ages, at home or school, in both special and regular education settings.

Testimonies from thousands of educators and parents around the world report successes with visual strategies that transform lives.

Here are examples of her testimonies:

“I want to thank you Linda for understanding our kids. I felt so helpless and finally hopeless with my son’s needs. I felt like I was the only one on the planet at that time who knew anything about my son. I found your books. I bought your books. I watched your video conference on visual strategies. I was so happy to finally find validation.” ~ Cheryl Peterson

“I love your Visual Strategies Workshop DVD Program. We have a library to lend teachers, paraprofessionals and parents educational resources. Your series is the most popular item on our list. The way you blend the “real educational” stuff with your experiences make it so much easier to see the way it is with real people. I guess I mean you humanize the literature! We recently included your videos in our paraprofessional training. They loved you!

Thank you for doing such a great job in educating us. You help to validate what I already know and remind me of other things I have forgotten and need to reintroduce into my therapy.” ~ Linda Watt, M.A., CCC-SLP

“The information you presented made a fundamental change in my understanding of the reasons to use visuals and how to implement these strategies. I always thought they were more complicated than they are.” ~ Linda Mohrmann
