Half-Day Workshop

Seminar: Using Systems to Teach Social and Emotional Information and Skills (5-Point Scale)

This workshop is a VIDEO RECORDED TRAINING (2h) with LIVE Q&A (1hr)

Problems of Social Cognition involve difficulties in the areas of Social Thinking, Relationship Building, Social Problem Solving and Emotional Regulation. This presentation will address these areas of need as they impact a person’s ability to function in the highly social environment of school. Social Cognition is developmental and having a problem of delayed or absent social understanding impacts a person’s competence in almost all social situations. These difficulties can lead to explosive behavior and even aggression.

Kari will present a brief overview of the social thinking research and learning theories emerging from the fairly new field of educational neuroscience. She will then describe and illustrate highly systematic approaches to teaching social information, and increasing a person’s ability to understand and regulate their emotional responses. The strategies discussed will involve the systematic use of the Incredible 5-Point Scale.
